REPROCELL’s UK-based Centre for Predictive Drug Discovery and our associated partners (Alcyomics®) now offer 3D assay services to meet the contract research needs of our customers. Based at REPROCELL’s new cell culture facility, scientists have developed assays in a range of formats, creating physiologically-relevant 3D tissue structures from a variety of cell sources.
Our team of expert scientists are available to discuss how our assays can answer your contract research needs and design a protocol that will meet your study requirements. REPROCELL scientists are also available to create custom 3D assays, to meet specific customer project requirements. See below for an overview of our 3D assay capabilities and links to detailed information about our services.

Novel Neurite Outgrowth and Inhibition Model in 3D
REPROCELL have developed a novel Alvetex-based 3D assay for inhibition and recovery of Neurite Outgrowth, developed in partnership with the University of Durham, UK. ReproNeuro™ iPSC-derived Human Neurons , available as healthy wild-type, Alzheimer Disease patient-derived (presinilin 2 mutation) and mutated (presinilin 1 mutated) to assess pathological changes in vitro.
The assay is a versatile tool allowing users to explore physiological and pathological ECM coatings (laminin, CSPGs), known pathway inhibitors and therapeutic lead compounds.

Skimune®3D–a novel autologous full-thickness skin equivalent model
REPROCELL, in association with Alcyomics®, offer unique screening services using fully humanised in vitro skin explant assays and 3D equivalents constructed in Alvetex enabling more cost-effective commercialisation of products or drugs to the cosmetic, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, whilst reducing the need for animal-based models.
Alcyomics® have developed a full-thickness autologous skin equivalent model, Skimune®3D using healthy primary human skin cells and autologous immune cells. This representative model of normal human skin overcomes the barrier of species differences and accurately reflects the responses of the human immune system.
This assay is ideal for the testing of adverse immunological reactions to large proteins such as monoclonal antibodies, biosimilars and biobetters.

Liver Biology and Hepatotoxicity in Alvetex 3D Cell Culture Technology
REPROCELL have previously demonstrated improvements in Hepatocyte morphology, cell-cell contacts and protein expression in vitro using Alvetex 3D well inserts in peer-reviewed publications from REPROCELL’s collaborations with the University of Durham, UK and LGC Ltd. Higher-throughput 3D assay formats are also available, validated in HepG2 cells for hepatotoxicity and drug metabolism. Our expert scientific team are on-hand to discuss the range of liver applications based in Alvetex 3D Scaffold technology and will work with you to design a 3D protocol that meets your requirements.
3D liver assays can also be formed using REPROCELL’s iPSC-derived ReproHepato cells, shown to demonstrate improved functionality over cancer-derived hepatocytes and less variability than human primary hepatocytes.
